Textile Waste: Sustainable Disposal in the Fashion and Industrial Sectors

Textile waste consists of fabric scraps, fibers, yarn, felt, sponges, clothing, and production waste. The apparel, weaving, home textile, and technical textile industries generate tons of textile waste each year. This waste doesn't readily decompose in nature and, when incinerated uncontrolled, produces dense smoke and harmful gases. MT INCINERATION SYSTEMS offers a highly efficient solution for the safe, controlled, and environmentally friendly disposal of textile waste with its YF Series Incinerators. This system completely incinerates cotton, polyester, viscose, nylon, blended fabric, and sponge waste at high temperatures, turning them into harmless ash and converting the resulting heat into energy.

Types and Characteristics of Textile Wastes

Natural Fiber Waste: Fabrics and yarns with organic content such as cotton, wool, linen and viscose.

Synthetic Fiber Waste: Consists of petroleum-based fibers such as polyester, nylon, acrylic and elastane.

Blended Fabric Waste: Cotton-polyester blend, coated and laminated fabrics.

Industrial Textile Waste: High-volume products such as sponge, felt, filter fabric and filling materials.

Although textile waste has a high calorific value, its dye, adhesive, and chemical content necessitates gas treatment and flue cleaning systems during incineration. YF Series systems provide low emissions for these mixed wastes with multi-stage flue cleaning and activated carbon filtration technology.

Environmental Impacts of Textile Waste

Textile waste that is uncontrolledly stored or burned in open areas causes air, water, and soil pollution. Harmful compounds such as dioxin, furan, and formaldehyde, produced by the combustion of synthetic fabrics, harm both the environment and human health. Therefore, textile waste should be disposed of in closed, high-temperature incinerators. MT INCINERATION SYSTEMS neutralize flue gases by passing them through cooling, chemical washing, and activated carbon filtration stages. The systems are fully compliant with EN 13284-1 and EU 2010/75/EC emission standards.

YF Series Solid Waste Incinerator: High Efficiency in Textile Waste

YF Series Textile Waste Incinerators completely incinerate both natural and synthetic textile waste with a two-stage combustion system operating between 850°C and 1200°C. The dense refractory lining reduces heat loss and increases energy efficiency. An automatic air balancing system ensures stable combustion and prevents smoke and odor formation. Post-combustion gases are purged through flue washing, chemical treatment, and filtration systems, rendering them harmless to the atmosphere.

Working Principle

Textile waste is admitted to the incineration chamber via a bunker system. The first stage involves pre-drying and gasification, followed by full oxidation. The resulting heat can be used to produce hot water or steam with an optional heat exchanger. In the final stage, the flue gases are thoroughly cleaned through cooling, chemical washing, and filtration. This process reduces the waste volume by up to 90%, leaving only sterile ash.

Advantages of the YF Series

Low Emission and Chimney Washing Technology: Advanced chimney washing and gas purification system completely eliminates harmful particles and chemical gas emissions.

Energy Recovery: Heat from the combustion process can be converted into hot water, steam or process heat.

High Combustion Efficiency: With fully automatic air control, textile waste burns completely, without smoke or odor.

Safe and Automatic Operation: Automatic control panel ensures safe and efficient operation by monitoring temperature and oxygen ratio.

Durable and Long-Lasting Construction: Refractory lining and steel body provide a long-lasting design resistant to constant high temperatures.
