Pallet Waste: Sustainable Disposal in the Storage and Logistics Sectors

Pallet waste consists of wooden, plastic, composite, and pressed pallets. Used in the manufacturing, logistics, warehousing, and transportation sectors, these pallets break, deform, or become contaminated over time. Open-air incineration of this waste harms the environment due to the release of dense smoke and carbon dioxide. MT INCINERATION SYSTEMS offers the most effective solution for the safe, environmentally friendly, and energy-efficient disposal of unusable pallets with its YF Series Incinerator. This system burns wooden and plastic pallets at high temperatures, turning them into harmless ash and utilizing the resulting heat for energy production.

Types and Characteristics of Pallet Waste

Wooden Pallets: The most common type; can be nailed, impregnated or painted.

Plastic Pallets: Polyethylene (PE) or polypropylene (PP) based, with high heat values.

Composite Pallets: These are pressed materials made from a mixture of wood fiber, resin or plastic.

Disposable Pallets: These are lightweight, low-strength and short-lived transportation pallets.

Because pallet waste is high-volume, its volume can be reduced by crushing or shredding before incineration. Flue gas treatment and flue washing systems during the incineration process prevent the release of dioxins and carbon particles into the environment.

Environmental Impacts of Pallet Waste

Packaging waste that is stored or burned in an uncontrolled manner creates air, soil, and water pollution. Plastic and composite packaging can release harmful compounds such as dioxin and furan during combustion. Pallet waste that is stored or burned in an uncontrolled manner creates intense carbon emissions, smoke pollution, and a fire risk. Resin, paint, and impregnation chemicals in wooden pallets, while chlorine and additives in plastic pallets, can form harmful gases during combustion. Therefore, pallet waste must be disposed of in closed system incinerators operating at high temperatures. MT INCINERATION SYSTEMS process flue gases through cooling, chemical washing, and activated carbon filtration, rendering them completely harmless to the atmosphere. Emission values comply with EN 13284-1 and EU 2010/75/EC standards. Therefore, packaging waste must be disposed of in closed system incinerators operating at high temperatures. MT INCINERATION SYSTEMS, in systems specifically designed for packaging waste, neutralize flue gases by passing them through cooling, chemical washing, and activated carbon filtration. Emission values are well below EN 13284-1 and EU 2010/75/EC standards.

YF Series Solid Waste Incinerator: Maximum Efficiency in Pallet Waste

YF Series Pallet Waste Incinerators provide complete combustion at high temperatures with a two-stage combustion system operating between 850°C and 1200°C. A dense refractory lining reduces heat loss and increases efficiency. An automatic air balancing system ensures stable combustion and prevents smoke and odor formation. Post-combustion gases are released harmlessly into the atmosphere through flue washing, gas purification, and activated carbon filtration systems.

Working Principle

Pallet waste is fed into the furnace via a bunker system. The first stage involves drying and gasification, followed by full oxidation. The resulting heat can be used to produce hot water or steam with an optional heat exchanger. Flue gases are thoroughly cleaned through cooling, chemical washing, and filtration. At the end of this process, the waste volume is reduced by up to 90%, leaving only sterile ash.

Advantages of the YF Series

Low Emission and Chimney Washing Technology: Advanced flue gas treatment completely eliminates harmful particles and gas emissions.

Energy Recovery: The heat obtained during the combustion process can be converted into hot water, steam or process energy.

High Efficiency: With complete combustion technology, pallet waste is completely eliminated and the ash ratio is at a minimum level.

Safe and Automatic Operation: Automatic control panel continuously monitors temperature, air flow and combustion rate.

Durable and Long-Lasting Design: Dense refractory coating and steel body ensure long-term operation resistance at high temperatures.
